Charitygovernance's own Jack Siegel will speak on March 3, 2005 in Boston at the Sixth Annual Nonprofit Law Conference (sponsored by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education). Jack will be on a two-person panel with Elizabeth J. Story of the Public Charities Division, Attorney General’s Office, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Their topic:
How Internal Controls Can Prevent the “Diversion” of Charitable Assets: The Board’s Role in Protecting Assets and Mission
Everyone in the nonprofit community is talking about internal controls in the light of a number of highly-publicized frauds, thefts and embezzlements. This session addresses fraud prevention through financial controls, and also focuses on broader controls and the board’s role in implementing those controls. Audit and management letters, whistle-blower policies, document retention programs, conflicts policies, and a number of other control devices are also discussed, with an emphasis on how the board should use these controls to better monitor and govern the organization.
This presentation is part of an all-day seminar, giving you the opportunity to learn about the latest developments affecting non-profits and their boards, with a special focus on Massachusetts law. The full schedule includes....
