DATELINE: January 19, 2008, Chicago
We will be on hiatus until February 3 or thereabouts—although we may do an occasional post if computer facilities and time permit. Our Jack B. Siegel will be participating in an all-day program on January 24th in Singapore. The program is organized by Lexis/Nexis Singapore and focuses on charity governance and accounting. Jack was originally asked to be the conference’s keynote speaker, but...
after the organizers saw his proposed set of topics, they asked him to take on 4 hours of the all-day program. He will also serve as the program's moderator. Jack’s presentation, entitled “One Size Does Not Fit All: The Governing Board’s Role in Overseeing Charitable Organizations and IPCs” is a shortened versions of his “best practices” all-day seminar.
The other presenters at the conference are Gregory Vijayendran, a partner with the Rajah & Tann law firm, and David Chew, Managing Director, Risk Management, Deloitte & Touche Enterprise Risk. Mr. Vijayendran will be speaking on the Charities (Amendment) Act 2007 and the New Code of Governance. Mr. Chew will address Risk Management and Internal Controls for Charitable Organizations.
The impetus for the conference were major changes to Singapore’s regulatory scheme for charities, including a new accounting pronouncement. The growing attendance list includes regulators, officials with major Singapore charities, and professional advisors to charities.
Like this blog, Jack’s presentation uses current developments and events as the springboard for a lively discussion of the governance issues facing charities. Jack assembled this presentation from his extensive collection of over 1,200 PowerPoint slides.
There is still time to register for the conference so our readers in Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia (and we do have more than a few in these countries) should take advantage of this opportunity to meet our Jack in person and see him speak.
And our Jack is no fool. Having traveled so far, he has decided to extend the trip by visiting Siem Reap in Cambodia to see the temples of Angkor Wat. He will travel to Hong Kong to visit an old friend and his family. In addition to his suit and a jump drive, Jack will be traveling with camera, five lenses, and tripod. Many in the States are anxiously awaiting his return to see what this accomplished photographer captures on chip.
U.S. conference organizers, state nonprofit associations, and sector trade associations should keep Jack in mind when planning their next conference. Why find eight speakers to each make a 45-minute presentation when Jack offers a theme-based in-depth look at the important issues facing charities? His speaker rates are quite reasonable.
